Hello all, I'm pretty keen to have a bash at building a metal bodied resonator guitar. Is ther eany documentation available. I always feel better if I've done a bit of research. Quite honestly, I wouldnt knopw where to start here.

Welcome Raymond...not sure I've ever seen plans for a metal resonator. Hopefully some of our Reso experts will chime in.

MIMF.com library has the most extensive discussions on the subject. I have a 100 photo tut on how I build the body for a the tricone that's in my avatar. It also list where to get german silver brass if you want to build it from that. My bodies were built with GS. So I can't say exactly how steel and yellow brass will bend and press. There are also links in that discussion that will so how I bent the sides and some other discussions on the build of the first one where I was led by my friend Mike Dotson and Mike Simpson. You can also find a template drawing of a tricone in their library and get a plan of a single cone from Resophonic outfitters which you can modify as I did to include a cutaway. Mike will probably chime in here too. If you bone up on all that material and have any questions I'm sure Mike or myself will help you out if we can.

And I have an Autocad drawing of the top of a tricone that is in the public domain. I can e-mail it either as a dwg or a pdf.

If anyone wants the plans please PM me your e-mail address and I'll send them out. I can do it in dwg (older A-cad, I think it is release 10) or full scale pdf (which Kinko or an engineering office should be able to print). I could even make a (shudder) paper copy and snail mail it. Obviously the dwg could be modified if you want to change scale length or anything, the pdf can not.

I built a wooden tricone from these plans (there is a thread on this subforum) and made the grills from stainless steel. Also used it to make a routing template for the top.
