I'm going to try learning dobro again & the slide i have is over 3" long & very heavey. So at the local store yesterday I saw some nice wooden handled ones. How would you approach making the metal part?

cut the round part from Stainless steel of brass rod. (brass is a lot easier to cut)

brass is normally chrome plated, but the chrome wears out quickly.

another approach would be to polish up a deep socket and glue the handle to it.

you can also cut from glass rod, or anything else that is round and hard that you can polish -even copper pipe

tone is very dependant on the weight.
