I know not everyone here like the fretboard vines, but tis the only inlay I've done so I thought I would post is. Was about a year ago, and the photo was before I cleared the epox out of the slots. Definately not up to par with the pros, but I thought I'd post it so some of you who are considering inlay for the first time can see that it is possible..the vine is MOP and the dot markers/flowers are abalone.

Hi Mike, your vine looks great!

Did you do it in Amy Hopkin's inlay class over on MIMF? I took that class and made the same vine (as a believe Brock and some other OLF members did as well). Did you put the fingerboard on a guitar yet?

Mike, i'm the kind of guy who's always in awe when i see such awesome work, and i find myself very ignorant of anything "inlay" so a stewpid question is poppin' out of my skull, the vine, does it come precut from MOP or do you have to cut and inlay small pieces at a time to do a whole vine on a fingerboard ?

Hoping my question won't make you ROTFLYAO !

Thanks for all the nice words guys, it was a fun project, one that I hope to do more of in the future. I started trying to put small paragliders on a guitar I rebuilt for my son, but have not been able to make them look like paragliders
Arnt, yes that is the MIMF vine, and no I haven't put it on a guitar yet. Not sure what I'm saving it for..
Serge, the MOP comes in flat sheets about 1 to 2sq inches and you cut all the different shapes then route the fretboard. I think you can get precut vine pieces though. But then there wouldn't be any little mistakes.

Serge, if you want a pre-cut vine, try Andy DePaul

His stuff is awesome and very reasonable!

Mike, that looks great to me, too.
You know what you could try is just a bit of engraving. Deepen (and further define) the leaves...put some veining on them, etc. Now perhaps I just can't see it if you've already done that (pic is a bit blurry).
But if not, that would help make it more your own. And who knows? You just might want to build a guitar around it to show it off!
