I'm in the process of starting high end guitar and mandolin websites. So far I've arranged to be a dealer for Rockbridge guitars and Kronbauer guitars. I don't have the capital to expand beyond that in the early going, but down the road I'll be adding more makers, I'm sure.
Out of curiousity, I'd like to know what the ideal dealer/luthier relationship is to those of you who are experienced and established. I assume the answers will differ significantly, but I'd like to hear any and all opinions.
Obviously a good relationship needs to be profitable and worthwhile for both, so a reasonable discount goes without saying.
Beyond that, however, I'm just not really sure what most luthiers want. Would you prefer to deal more often with a dealer rather than many individual buyers? Are dealers only useful as a place where people can play your guitars before hopefully ordering directly from you? Etc.
Thanks,
Andrew Wright
