Bob--

There are some pretty exhaustive threads on this, but in my experience with epoxy, which comes mostly from boat building, is that epoxy has very little resistance to UV light and degrades fairly quickly.  The products in the Marine construction world that counteract this are not conducive to a glass smooth finish.

poor UV resistance, big time dampening, poor buffing characteristics, poor ageing characteristics

Bob buddy JJ actually looked into this and did some tests about a year ago.  In addition to what the others have indicated above although epoxy can look killer and really pop the figure it is also not hard enough as a final finish.

Doesn't buff out well at all.
