Hello All,

OK, if I could indulge you all one more time. I’m ready to glue the fretboard to the neck.
But, before I do, I thought I would show everyone where I’m at so far.

The fingerboard is fretted, the upper bout has been trued, I have done the flossing to achieve
proper neck angle. (So I think)

Here’s what I got;

Picture #1. Shows full view

Picture #2. Looks like a pretty straight neck.

Picture #3. Shows a gap of about .015" at the 20th fret, the fretboard starts to fall at the 16th fret.

Picture #4. Gap at bridge is .060"

Questions;

Will this give me an approximate 1/8" saddle?

Should I correct the falling of the fretboard?

Robert, the fall after the neck joint is not an issue. Many builders work this into there designs to prevent the dreded 14th fret hump. The gap at the bridge looks like more than .060 but that could be the photo playing tricks on my eyes. If indeed that is the case, you are in good shape. I would run with it the way it is.

Looks really good to me. I struggled a lot on my first two guitars to get a setup close to what you're showing. I've fretted after gluing the neck and fretboard so far, but I'm going to try fretting before glue up - the fret insertion is sure easier, and it looks like maybe an overall simpler process.

I was hoping that I was doing it right, and, it sure is good to hear the positive responses to my work!

Paul, It was so close to .060", that I just rounded it off, I think it was closer to .062", or .063"

Terry, I do find myself wondering if the string tension will be a factor, in that, it will cause a larger
gap at the 20th fret.

Gene, I’m not sure which way is better, but, I will say that I liked the fact, that I could hold just the fretboard in my hand.
It allowed for easy close inspection. I installed all the frets one at a time,
hammering the ends first, then using a fret caul in my drill press. I then used a 2' level as a straight
edge with self adhesive 120 grit sand paper to shape all the frets at the same time to about a
60 degree angle. Then with a fine needle file cleaned up the edges till they felt smooth to the touch.
It seemed to work pretty good!

On another note; I was going to ask you guys how you liked to clamp your fingerboards to the neck.
But, I was so excited after reading the posts yesterday afternoon, that I went straightaway to the
shed, and glued that baby up!
The StewMac instructional shows the use of a big rubber band, but, I just used a bunch of spring
clamps, and a couple of cam clamps, along with some 1/4" cauls that fit between the frets.
