Bob CA will work just fine. Luckily no sensitivity here.

I have a back, joined and thickness sanded and noticed a crack, running with the grain extending from bottom up about 7". I know with other woods, 'flooding' the crack w/ca seems the approved remedy. However, since Coco is so oily, will the C/A glue and hold? PS re Coco; a little amount of sanding dust got on my arm and itching right away! Washed w/ soap and cold water and itching subsided. How do you guys work with this nasty and beautiful wood? |

i wear a painter balaclava, mask, safety goggles, tyvek coverals, and inspection gloves when sanding it. must be quite a sight, though i've never looked at myself in the mirror. i have the dust collector, the air cleaner and a box fan with filters running. afterwards i vacuum and blow the room out using the compressor. when handling it i usually where the gloves until i get it wiped down and am confident that all, or as close to all as practically possible, the dust is gone. from what i have read the sensitivity gets worse with continued exposure. some can't or won't work with it at all as a result. |

It will irritate my sinuses but I don't get skin rashes or respiratory reactions like some. Not every one is sensitive to it. |

I just had the same thing on some Coco happen to me. I used CA glue with no adverse effects. I am not sensitive to the Coco now but I hear that the sensitivity can develop over time. I am very careful with using this wood. Homeboy |

if it's irritating your sinuses, Michael, you are not wearing adequate respiratory protection. Yes, CA will glue cocobolo. |

But have be guilty of taking off the respirator and blowing away some dust by mouth every now an then

Thanks Guys, Perhaps anyone ho builds with Coco for another should receive additional hazard duty pay  .
Are there any other woods that are as 'oily' as Coco? |

Bob...I had Bolivian Rosewood (Pau Ferro) kick my butt many years ago. Once the rash broke out it was about 3 days later that it looked like I was rolling in poison ivy and ready for serious medical help. I had no idea wood could cause such problems. I will say, at that time, that I didn't have a dust collect and it usually would be covered in dust for hours at a time without thinking it was a problem. I think with a little caution it all can be avoided (for most people). |

Bob the CA will work well. If have any concern about it, you can wash it a little with acetone. If the join was sucessful, the crack no problem. I never have used anything on coco to retard the oil's and never a problem with join or crack fixes and I have built more with it than any other wood. |
