There was a recent thread about the Stanley 271, and the LN appears somewhat smaller to my eye. The Stanley will accomadate a 1/2" cutter blade. Someone mentioned that they use a 271 for hand routing binding/purfling channels, and the LN looks like just the ticket for that job. I'm putting this on my list for new tools. Thanks Todd! Todd...interesting little plane. I'm not so sure I really have a need for it but it's nice to know it's there if I need to buy it. Jon...Thanks for the link...now that was a comprehensive review! BTW Todd...If you could have some luthier-specific planes designed, what would they be? My immediate thought would be in the area of binding channels. As always, thanks for the Plane Post...I love these tools. |

Looks nice. I use the Stanley for cleaning up the bottoms of rosette troughs (I build classical) when I am doing the rosette trough by hand. Last year when I attended the Romanillos class I did not have the option of using a PC310 w. a microjig fence ![]() |

I have the Stanley version and it is handy for some tasks, but for me they are mostly non luthiery related ones. Same with the #71 and the scraper planes, but I do use card scrapers a lot. |
