So the breakdown in my brain started about 15 years ago when I saw it this guy playing this guitar. His name is Thom BreshHe’s the son of Merle Travis, where Travis picking comes from. It rattled around in my brain all those years and then I decided to build it for some unknown reason -some people might ask why and all I have to say to that is “why is a crooked letter”… ![]() So it is a steel string on one side and a nylon string on the other side. The reason the necks are angled like they are is because the heels need to clear each other. I have seen one guy build one where are the necks lined up, but that creates another problem so this is what I went with. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Brad, I’ll be following your build. Keep in mind I’m a hobby builder so I really don’t know what I’m talking about. you’re building a guitar with a large hole in the back, how will this affect projection? |

Good question, that I won't know the answer to until it's done-flying by the seat of my pants on this one... I will say that said hole will be closed up to some degree by the players belly, so possibly the fatter one is the better it will sound? |

Made some more progress on this two headed monster… Productive day glued the classical neck in, fretted it, and got four coats of lacquer on. ![]() ![]() ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I wonder if two people could play it at the same time, if one of the necks was strung as a lefty (and that player was a lefty). Sort of like the guitar version of a kissing bench. |

Very cool. I can't wait to read the thread about where to buy a case for that. |

So , I strung it up and it projects just like a normal guitar-actually pretty loud and to my ears nice sounding on the steel string side-the nlon is a litle meek but respectable...Itoddly enoughseems the "hole" in the back plays no significant role in the sound or projection |

So, I finished the guitar yesterday… Pretty happy with the way it came out. I love the steel string side. The nylon side is a little “meek“. If I had made a regular steel string that sounded like that I’d be extremely happy. Anyway, I learned a lot from this mainly that having a big hole. In the back of the guitar didn’t make a bit of a difference in the volume or “quality” of Sound. Got me thinking about some new projects also so all in all I’m glad I did it. I have a few videos of it, but even after over 20 years on this form, I still don’t know how to post a video – lol ![]() ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I like it. Would be fun to walk on stage with that and see the reaction - especially from fellow musicians. |
