New build day! This is a model 00C with African Mahogany (Khaya) back, sides and binding that I got from Colonial Tonewoods before they shut the doors. The soundboard is West Virginian Red Spruce (Adirondack) from our field trip to Appalachian Tonewood.

The bridge and fretboard are ebony with MOP inlay of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Tuners are Schertler open gear with ebony buttons.

I had a lot of fun making this one and it has a sweet and rich sound. Two video samples linked at the bottom. Thanks to Don Parker for all the coaching on recording audio and video for my instruments.

Very nice - looks and sound! I’ve used Schertler’s on the last 3 or 4 that I’ve made. They’re my favorite tuners now.

Is that a hole above the pickup jack or an inlay?

Inlay. It’s a wenge piece that was cut from the wenge rosette base, where Khaya was then inlaid.

Hesh, I’m serious, I finished fretting and put the 320 grit beam and slid it one time, it touched frets 1-14. I still am thankful for your class, even with how green I was in the class (had just built #3), it has paid spades.

Nice guitar Brad, sounds good. I used Grover Uke tuners on my archtop. The neck is maple, so it isn't particularly light, but I'm used to violins, where everything is as light as it can be. It's 3 pounds 10 ounces. Not so light. The Stauffer built for nylons is only 2 1/2 pounds.

Brad I particularly admire your transition into the headstock. This still takes me ages and I'm not always happy with it.

I note the slightly unusual placing of the strap button ( or is this just me...). Is this where you like it to be? Not being a SS player and building with Trevor Gore's brass insert in the heel I'm always a bit unsure on this.

That's where I put all of my strap buttons too. You do have to pay attention to what's in the heel.

I have a similar shape at the headstock, and experience has led me to run CF neck reinforcements that extend through that transition out the face of the headstock…

For the strap button location, I chose that because it’s basically the best suited flatish area to put it. I use Hesh’s 7/8” up, 1/3 the way back. I cheat it a little to closer to 3/4” because it’s more flat there.
