Post subject:  Titebond Dates

I was tidying up some files the other day and came across Colin North's post on use by date format on Titebond. So thought I would just check my bottle.

Could not believe how out of date it was!. I know I haven't been active recently but this was years not months. I do wonder if it was in date when I bought it from that well known tool seller in Devon.

A reminder to people to check! Dave

In case you don't have the decoder ring:

SOURCE http://www.titebond.com/resources/use/glues
How Do I Read The Lot Numbers?
Current format for product made after 1/1/2019: Ayymmddbbb
The first letter is A for made in America, the first two digits after the A is the last two digits of the year of manufacture, the fourth and fifth digits represent the month, the sixth and seventh digits represent the day of the month and the last three digits represent the batch number for that day.
Example: A190615023 – This material was manufactured on June 15, 2019 The new code is: AYYMMDDNNN where: A=made in America YY=year manufactured (i.e., 19=2019) MM=month of manufacture (i.e. 01=January) DD=day of the month manufactured (i.e. 15=15th) NNN=a number indicating the batch

Gluefest Example: A220715166 2022 July 15

The other important piece of information is the shelf life. The official shelf life for most Titebond glues is two years, but if kept under optimal conditions it can last as long as ten years according to Titebond. http://blog.titebond.com/page/how-to-store-your-wood-glue-for-longer-life

I always take a Sharpie and put the date on the TiteBond bottles when I buy them. After two years I replace them. This is just where I ended up after we had some in-depth discussions here on the OLF.

Same here. Also, the date format changed not so long ago didn’t it?

Just bought some. It was 6 months since it was manufactured. I use it for a year and then relegate it to regular woodworking for another year or so. Cheap insurance.

I recently asked my wife to pick me up a bottle as I had run out. I didn't burden her with checking the date (which would probably have led to "go get it yourself"). The code indicates it was made in the middle of February 2022. I think she bought it at the local Home Despot. It was the pint size (16oz) which I thought they would sell plenty of so I'm surprised it was over two years old.
I don't use Titebond for high stress applications, so as long as the glue appears to be good I will use it.
