I’m so glad to have learned this. It might be well known and I’m late to the party. Jeff Jewitt talks in his Sunburst course on the Lutherie Academy about using sprayout cards to test spray colors and patterns. Jeff recommends the Gardco.com white paint cards. These cards are sealed on one side so you can spray water or solvent based finish on them and they act just like sealed top wood on an instrument.

This is absolutely perfect for allowing me to test burst recipes quickly and with little cost & time investment compared to prepping a test panel! Less than a buck a pop.
