A fellow I know bought his daughter the mandoline I was building. He asked If I made anything doing this and I told him I was lucky to cover expenses and invest in tools. Reminded him of a story.

A knife maker was being interviewed. Fairly successful guy. He was asked if he won a million dollars, what would he do?

"Well, I'd keep making knives until the money ran out"

Sounds familiar.

Mike

Yeah, in other words - "I'd mind my own business".

How do you make a small fortune building guitars?

Start with a large fortune.

If you had a million dollars, you could buy a fur coat. But not a real one, ‘cause that’s cruel.

The irony is that the same can be said for the musicians that buy expensive guitars and gig on weekends for $80 bucks in tips :)

Hey, now. Some of those boys are clients of mine. They pay me in Yankee money, and take me out for coffee and pie. I can't complain.

Tips, ha! What about us poor fools who buy expensive guitars (and mandolins) and just play them for free at church? If I had a million bucks I'd buy a better octave mandolin, then probably play it at church for free...
