We all owe so much to Stauffer! This build is based on what I could find by trawling the internet. I couldn’t find any plans so drew up my own and just went for it! The top is Engelmann Spruce, QLD Maple back and sides, Mahogany neck, Ebony fretboard, bridge and bridge decoration. Rubner tuners and key mechanism.
The back has a 6 1/2 foot radius.

The adjustable neck was challenging as all I could find was an X-ray of a Stauffer and one or two random pics. I’d change my process if doing another one. But now she’s strung up, the ability to adjust the action so easily is just inspiring. I think I’ll probably try to incorporate this into a steel string build in the future.

I’ve used strings that closely resemble what would have been used at the time around 1820-1830) La Bella ERG#1 as they were recommended in one of the FB groups.

Fantastic job! I am really enjoying seeing the guitars you post. Can you share any pictures of how you approached the adjustable neck?

Beautiful work Martin! But don’t tell the Americans about Queensland Maple, that’s our little secret :D

Rubner have the adjustable neck hardware if you ask them, not listed on their site. Very easy to install I think.

How does it sound?
Is the bridge design traditional? I've never seen one quite that shape on a romantic guitar.

Very nice! When I make another, I might use the Rubner tuners, the engraving is so well done. Mine looked.more.like scribbles. I just used an alien head bolt, and a threaded brass insert. I saw the hardware on the Rubner site before. When I didn't see it listed, I thought they stopped making it. Thanks Roger.

I have Aquila Ambra 900's on mine. One day I'll try gut trebles, and maybe the real silk basses. Especially with the 625 scale they are easy on the fingers.

Mine has a surprisingly deep voice. I cut the bracing down, so I guess it isn't so surprising.

That Queensland maple is nice.
