I tried putting another .005” clear scratch guard on one of my instruments today and ran into a new problem. Placed the scratch guard with the help of some soapy water and squeegeed all the bubbles out, no problem. But then after drying everything off and looking at the guard it has a very uneven bumpy appearance to it that I have never experienced in my past builds. The last pictures show the scratch guard that I placed today and the first pictures show an older instrument with a clear scratch guard that looks just fine and always did. These are cut from StewMac clear scratch guard sheets.
Any clues as to what might be going on? (The surface of the instrument underneath the scratch guard was glass smooth.)

There might be a minute amount of water still under there. Give it a day or two and see if it doesn't improve.

Waiting a few days like Jim suggested has done the trick for me.

If memory serves I had the same problem when using the thinner .005” material so I went back to the thicker .010” which I normally used and it was fine.
