Student wanted "one of these" for his first build.

Suggested to him it was perhaps a little ambitious for a first..
But in the spirit of "the customer is sometimes almost right" we put this into a ply former today.
He'll put the Spalted Beech between the rings.
Happy customer. [:Y:]

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Somewhere in the MIMF library I believe Michael Lazar described how to make "wheat " purflings.

Looking good so far. A student who sets their sights high can often be a good thing........

A student that sets their sights high and achieves it is a great thing. (but dangerous)
