I was a regular participant in this forum 5-10 years ago and have gotten away from building as frequently as I used to. I just finished the construction of a new guitar and I am looking for someone to do the finishing work. I have had Joe White do my finishing in the past and I love his work. I haven't been able to get ahold of him. Anyone know what his status is? Is he still finishing guitars? If not, who does this work theses days.

Last I heard Joe had moved and was in process of setting up a new shop.

Brian Howard on this forum does UV Poly Conversion Varnish and several other finishes.

Tony Ferguson does Catalyzed Urethane, and a guy named Matt Eady (I think) can do a nitro for ya...

Joe is not doing finish work at the moment. It's been a while since he stopped taking on work and I'm not sure how long it will be before he starts back up again.

Tony Ferguson does great work. I had bad luck with Vancouver Guitar finishing (they spray polyester) but they are good people and I have seen some of their work that looked terrific. I've heard good things about Jimmy B in Texas for a nitrocellulose finish. I found some local (to me) guys in my area that seem to do really good work and I have some guitars with them now. I'll let the forum know how it turns out and if I would recommend their services.

After doing my own finish work for 12 years, I bit the bullet this year to outsource that work to Vancouver Guitar Finishing.
I’ve always taken pride that I do everything myself — no CNC, hand-cut inlays, and my own finish. I never really enjoyed it, and was often frustrated trying to reach the level I was aiming at. But the crunch finally came after returning to Canada, and realising that the length of the operating season for my spray booth was really limited to 6 months and that didn’t fit my schedule. I also took a master class from a well-known builder a few years ago and thought I would get some tips on how to up my game. The response I got was “The day I have to spray guitars again is the day I stop building.”
I discussed VGF with some of their existing customers who I know and respect, and asked several questions directly by phone. I just received back my first instrument. They can do various finishes, but I opted for UV poly. They use Simtec products — the same as used by Michael Greenfield, although he sprays his own. I am very pleased with the result.
