This stuff has seemed to drop off the face of the earth, I haven't seen it for sale in years. Even Australian Tonewoods doesn't have guitar sets listed anymore.

I am curious what they cost these days, I have a set to get rid of, I'm not a fan of one-off sets in my wood stash. I'll renew my classified subscription and post it one of these days :)

Thanks,

It is hard to say Laurie. It is not a commonly used tonewood so there might not be a lot of demand. Even here in Australia I hardly ever see people using jarrah for guitar building, despite there being a lot of it used in furniture building and other crafts (so it is not because the wood is scarce). I have recently used it as a fingerboard material. It is hard and stiff, so I imagine it might be difficult to bend but I have never tried. If your piece is nicely figured it might find a buyer. You could try asking your question on the Australian and New Zealand Luthiers Forum where there might be some folks who have used it before (and maybe want to again).

Based on my other experiences with Jarrah, I would never use it for a guitar.

Thanks guys,

Brian: What sort of issues are we talking about? Would you care to elaborate?

I'm tempted to keep the set and bend it to see if I can get a decent rim out of it. I don't see anything yet to scare me away from using the set, but I haven't handling it much. I have only joined the back plates so far. But its highly flamed, I look forward to seeing it with finish :)
