Stalled Stahl? I started this one for the 2013 (yikes!) Build Challenge. And then got sidetracked by a lot of things, not insignificantly, finishing the workshop in the image below. And another timberframe that will serve as our woodshed. And building some tube amps. And starting a coffee roasting business. And...

Now that things have slowed down a little I started poking away at this one again. Since I started, Hans Brentrup came out with his Building the Obscure Guitar, which will be a big assist to me.

When I last left you, before the show was cancelled for six seasons, I had prepped the top and back with rosette and back stripe of a homemade flavor loosely based on the Stahl style using bloodwood, walnut and maple.

I can see that storage conditions were less than ideal, and I will have to deal with sun-bleaching of the back through the soundhole.

And this brings us to new progress. We'll see how far I get in the next couple weeks, before I travel for two months.

Laminated the main braces, but they have yet to be cleaned up.

Also made a 12' radius cylindrical mold for bracing the top in the Larson-Stahl manner.

Love the shop and love to see the old projects dusted off and moving forward again.

Yes, I covet that shop. I'm blessed with a shop space that works for me, but man, I would love to work in a space like that, assuming it was "tight" enough to keep RH under control.

It would be hard to get me out of a shop like that! Looking forward to seeing the build!

Thanks for the comments about the shop. I had an architect who specializes in timberframes with the following criteria: 1) footprint that fit in the available space (16x32), 2) lofted half over, 3) showcase my timberframe talents, and 4) be a space I want to spend all my time in. He met all goals with flying colors. I was a bit leery when he suggested curved timbers, they were the hardest part of the project, from sourcing to scribing.

Anyway, made a little progress over the last couple days - all the braces are roughed and ready for glue. The x-braces are laminated with padauk (the Larsons used rosewood)

Made my first ever batch of HHG today, and will glue up over the weekend. Still have to thickness and shape the bridge plate.
