Post subject:  Vacuum kiln services.
Im sure it was at one of the ASIA symposiums in Maryland that I met a guy from that east coast neighborhood [CT, VT, NY] that operated a couple vacuum kilns.. . And We have a customer that needs some 4-8" thick sitka dried. We lost all our rolodex and hard drives etc in the home /office fire 2 yrs ago, so I don't know who or where this guy is.. But since he was at a luthier gathering, somebody here may know,, or may know of someone else..
My customer is in NY.
I have been dreaming for a vacuum kiln for several yrs.. You guys come buy and use a lot of our sitka and cedar, and we can get closer to purchasing one :)

A quick google search turned up these mills which have vacuum/rf kilns.
These are all in BC, not too far from you.
Not sure if they offer outsourced drying services, but most mills I have dealt offer some drying if it fits in their production.

Thank you Brian, But what we need is someone closer to the customer.. It would be way too expensive to get material from here to anyone in BC.. It would have to go by barge to Seattle, and then truck back north./. There is no direct barge service between SE Alaska Ports and BC Canada ports. My customer had called a couple vac kiln operators, but they could not guarantee drying thickness over 4". But the guy I met 10+ yrs ago told me he could dry logs without creating defect.. I'm looking for that kinda operation.

Does it need to be vacuum or would nitrogen be okay? If so I know of a good company in NE Ohio

Nitrogen? I don't know anything about that. we need to dry a lot of mass. 20" x 20" x 6-10" thick of clear old growth sitka spruce.
