I recieved my package from China yesterday and needed to make a bridge for a 00. I figured I'd go ahead and make one in ebony and the other in Blackwood Tek. The BWT machined well and smells like the inside of a Pier 1 Imports when working. The ebony bridge weighed 30.5g and the BWT ended up at 26.5g. I've got a couple hundred pounds of ebony on hand and will likely only use the BWT for folks that are hoping for a border-proof guitar.

Can you tell which is which?

Not from that distance as the picture pixelated before you can see the pores, but they both look good!

Somebody's right then...!

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

I would guess the left one since the right one is not jet black throughout. Isn't the manufactured stuff supposed to be fully black?

The one on the left is BWT I meant.

The only manufactured stuff that is absolutely black is the Richlite. The Rocklite and the BWT have visible grain/color streaks, and you are right, it's the one on the left.

Actually Logan answered correctly before you did so no prize which isn't really a big deal because he's not getting one either

I'll let you know if I decide to sell some sets, or I can put you in touch with the folks in China.
