Interested on people's thoughts regarding Tenor Ukulele scale lengths. Stew Mac sells a pre-slotted fingerboard with a 17-3/32" scale length while LMII sells one with a 17.0" scale length.

Which is more popular?

Which do you use?

Why?

No idea which is more popular. I use 17.0" because I bought my fretting template from LMI. With regard to scale length on a guitar I read that it takes greater than 5 mm before one can feel a scale length difference. I wonder if any player can feel the 3/32".

So are those scales including compensation?

I have 2 seperate tenor scales made from Lexan one for a 12 fret and the other is 14 fret , I prefer the 12 fret to the body for 8 string tenors, 12 F and 14 F is a 434 mm scale length and, You can add compensation 1/16 in by using an angled bridge saddle. The usa decimal equivalent is 17.09 inchs scale length

No, just the "discussion" scale length to cut the fret slots and size the neck for the proper join fret. I'm working up some standard ukulele necks to keep in stock and I'm trying to get an idea of what ratio of 17.0/17.093 to keep on hand.

17" is the standard Andy.

Stewmac has used the "closest" equivelant by using a section of a guitar template. Some pro builders have done the same as that was all that was available when they started and just continued with the practice.

17.

If I needed a template for a Tenor, StewMac wouldn't be it.
