First - I found this on my bench - does anyone recognize it? The shaft has a flat spot its whole length

Second - after 5 fretboards, I just notices a line scored down the length of the blade of my StewMac fret saw. It is just a little deeper than the fret barbs and works great at letting you know you are deep enough. Is this intentional? Do others have this on their saws?

Ed

Is the allen key there for scale or does it go with it somehow?

It looks like the threaded center for a "self feed" bit which could be turned around when the threads get too worn to pull the bit into the board. I used to use them for electrical and plumbing chases in log homes.

The line on the saw is where the harder steel for the teeth is welded.
Is the threaded bit a screw centre for a lathe?

My daughter gave me a giant Milwaukee Forstner type bit a couple of months ago, just like the one pictured only bigger - she used it in an art project a few years ago and was cleaning house. That's it. I was looking it over and left the bag on the bench.

Also, this particular saw does not have a different steel at the edge - the saw plate is all the same steel. Anybody else on the scored line on the saw??

Thanks

Ed
