WE have an older 16in hvy duty 2 hp 220 v Taiwanese Rexon 2 spd green planer bought in N. van. BC in 1987, my problem is the 2 speed xmission leaks oil from the upper right hand crankcase which takes about 1 month to drain itself out. It has not seen much use lately. It is comparable to other imports from grizz etc of that era .Not sure how to go about replacing the gasket or whatever to stop the leaking? anyone out there done this repair ? Scant info on youtube Thank you |

I'm assuming you have but I'll mention it anyway. . . have you googled the name of the machine and problem yet (not just into youtube)? I often find some obscure forum devoted to fixing whatever I have that is broken and can usually get good advice. There may be a large shop tool maintenance forum out there somewhere. |

Most of the older Taiwanese machinery was a clone of a western brand. If you can figure out what it is a clone of you might be able to use the information for that machine to sort the problem. |

Have you tightened the Allen bolts? My green BusyBee planer also leaked from the crank case, but not as badly. Snugging the bolts did the trick, for me. Alex |

Need to determine where its leaking from. If its a bearing seal, the you'll need to find a comparable replacement. If its a joint leak, Permatex is your friend.https://www.permatex.com/product-catego ... et-makers/ |

I think it/s leaking from the worn out seal .? not sure , and yes I confess I was doing the pan thing for 1 year , but want to fix the leak now . I did get some red permatex. The Rexon is pretty generic , and the busy bee tool store in burnaby in the 80/s probably carried the same planer with a different name .Taiwan will put any name on a tool you wish, i got replacement knives from grizz . The other suggestions about looking for a comparable planer are good, but am not familiar with other usa planers.This is the only heavy duty planer I/ve ever owned, and it was bought in .N.vancouver BC in 1987 . I still have the original manual, and diagram , But frankly it looks like a chinese puzzle to me! Thanks everyone. Will keep looking for a youtube vid on how to replace gasket on an older planer. |
