I just replaced the nickel buttons on a set of tuners with Ebony. I was staring at them, admiring them, taking i the shiny nickel, the brass, and the wood and it struck me that most of my vintage tools have nickel, brass, and exotic wood on them. Stanley used Brazilian Rosewood for totes and knobs and I have seen some amazing pieces of wood.

Below is a shot of my completed tuners, and a shot of the tote on a friend's plane, a Stanley #5 made between 1885 and 1888, with what might be the prettiest tote I have seen

Save your BRW for tool handles and jigs. At the rate cites and lacey are going you won't be able to do much else with it. [headinwall]

The buttons really dressed up the Grover's .

99.9% Of every rosewood antique (pianos, tables, etc.) is veneered -at least that's what I've found.
