Thought I would share a good experience with one of the forum sponsors. I ordered two of the work boards from Canadian Luthier Supply. One 30’ and one 15’. They arrived quickly and the face of the board was already sealed with some shellac. They are really nice. I’ve been wanting to do this for a while. Set up the work board in a way where the braces are easy to line up and install. Here is what I came up with:
Both the dreadnaught and tenor Uke shapes are drawn onto the board. I marked the brace locations for back braces on each. Dred braces are in red, Uke in black:
I put locating dowels that align with the brace shaping jig I made from the Gore book. It puts the chamfer on the top of the brace.
You can see here the brace after being run across the 22.5 chamfer bit.
Next I use the radius jig, also from the Gore book, to put the radius on the brace bottom.
I’m excited to brace up a back with it this weekend!
The only drawback I can see is I’ll have to mark where to end the glue line on each end of the brace so that I don’t glue it down to the work board.
