What a wonderful opportunity. I took the fretting class this weekend and I can't say enough good things about David and Hesh. The class was well put together and very informative. I do have a big complaint though now that I've had a chance to think about it and been home for a day I'm uber annoyed that I have to re-fret 4 different necks that I thought were done after taking the class.

And i'm stoked I don't have to hammer frets anymore who would of thought........

I got lucky, after the class all I had to do was go back, relevel the frets and then make new nuts and saddles but it was worth it ;)

That class sure will change how you do things. I've found that the whole approach to working on guitars that I picked up while I was up there has changed the way I do all of my guitar work - - in a good way.

I was with Steve and Greg at the fretting class. I would say that even beginners would benefit from these classes. As an absolute rookie, I was lucky that I didn't have to unlearn anything, but having been a cabinet maker for many years, I was used to using hand tools.
I guarantee that anyone taking the fretting class will have a few " ... are you kidding?" moments, where you learn to do a task in literally a few minutes that would normally take hours, with exceptional results!

Alex

The class sounds amazing. I can’t travel. Hopefully they will video the class some day.

Hey Dave,

Glad you got home safe, I trust Jim did also. It was nice to meet you guys and spend a couple of days getting some guitar geek time with like minded folk.

If anyone wants to up their game on guitar fretting and setup, this class is a must. Dave Collins is an excellent instructor and he teaches in a clear, concise and logical manner. His decades of experience really shine through and you will learn an extremely accurate and efficient method to optimize the playability of any guitar.

Jim and I didn't make it easy on Mr. Collins. We both brought in old import acoustics with a myriad of issues, an over set neck, an under set neck, one bridge too thick, one too thin, and a back bowed neck. In each case we learned how to evaluate the insturment and identify and resolve any issues. We all left with guitars with killer setups and a pile of knowledge.

Can you set up an old Alverez to play with no fret buzz at an action of 2/64 on the high e and 2.5 /64 on the low E?
I can.
Take the class if you have a chance.

Steve
