Does anyone have an alternative source for 6" .023 or .025 circular saw blades? The $115+ StewMac blade seems excessive. I know it's a speciality blade and I generally try to support Lutherie suppliers.
Also, do you send them out for sharpening, do it yourself, or dispose of used blades? On average how may fretboards do you get before the blade is dull?

I sharpen mine with a file. Pretty easy if you know how.

We used to sell similar blades at MSC Industrial. Probably McMaster too.

I use the stewmac blade also. After about a dozen fretboards and a fair amount of kerfed lining making, I just sent it out for sharpening. Haven't got it back yet but I hope it is better than new when I do.

If you buy the LMI power slotting system once, it's a 200$ investment for everything it comes with. Subsequent replacement blades are only 57$.

I did send one out to be sharpened, but they just cut new teeth in the old blade and it came back a different diameter. Which made it useless.

How about the LMI blade & a set of CMT stabilizers?

Maybe you'd get away with it. The LMI ones are 5.5", leaving ~ 1/4" blade exposure. I'd be worried about flop with the amount of blade exposed by 5" stiffeners...

You very well may be right.
Why else would LMI offer a solution that costs over 4x as much idunno

For several years I used a “standard” 5” stiffener on 6” LMI blade and never noticed loose slots. .5” of exposed blade is not a crazy amount of exposure.

YMMV
