It's a longshot but.... any OLF folks going to the Ohio guitar show this weekend? I've never been to the show. The comments on Facebook are not all positive, so I'm curious if anyone is going or has been?

Would be cool to meet some more OLF folks in person. [:Y:]

Brad, I went to the show once, several years ago. Not too impressive, tons of used factory stuff and one pretty mediocre builder. The weather may play a big role for anything going on this weekend, 5-8" of snow and ice possible overnight on Friday. I doubt I'll go. But... if you are local to central Ohio we should meet sometime!

Thanks, Greg. I get the same sense from the comments on Facebook about the quality of the show. Appreciate the feedback. Indeed the weather looks rough this weekend. If it's clear by Sunday I may drive up. It's an iron clad excuse to avoid some other chores needing work this weekend. :D

I'm in Cincy, would be great to meet up. I'll ping you in PM.

Brad

I've been a few times when it used to be at the Aladdin Shrine Temple which had crowded, narrow aisles.

I'd say the content was about 80% electrics, amps, pedals, etc. FWIW

I will be displaying a few of my guitars at the Ohio Guitar Show tomorrow, so make sure to stop and say hi if any of you attend. Not sure what to expect since this is my first time displaying at this show.

In case you haven't seen this, here is a video from the new venue that I haven't been to yet.

This is the general feel IMO. If you can get a spot in a corner that's not as loud & congested, that would seem best for selling acoustics. Just my $0.02

A "Guitar Show" is a stretch. Its more of a swap meet, flea market at best. A better name would be "My Amp Is Louder Than Your Amp Show". Not a conducive atmosphere for exhibiting of or listening to fine acoustic guitars.

I went to the show.

It was like I had remembered, crowded & loud. Lots & lots of electrics but more acoustics than I had remembered previously. There were only a few builders, mostly electrics though.

I did get to re-meet Chuck Baleno who I had met at John Hall's a few years ago. He had a good spot in a corner where people could check out his guitars & talk without getting run over by other attendees.

I got to check out his work [:Y:] [:Y:] and we talked about exciting topics like pore filling and neck joints.

It's obviously not the best show for acoustics but if you're into guitars I think it's worthwhile.

Thanks Kevin for the photo. It was nice talking shop with you.

It was a long day and met a few interested people. As Kevin said it was crowded and noisy. And they did not have a "quiet room" for someone to listen to an acoustic guitar. Not sure that I will display at that show again.

Non prestigious shows like that can still be a lot of fun. Lots of good stuff happens outside the parameters of Woodstock and the like.

The only times I had trouble at IBMA were once where a banjo display had a person insisting on playing "Purple Haze" on an electric banjo over and over and over and over and...he was eventually told to stop.
One of the other times I displayed there, the concert auditorium (next to the display hall) had concrete block walls, but a young bluegrass band with an overactive set of teens had a bass player that insisted on shaking the whole building. Sorry, volume 12 is not where bluegrass is, just like playing 2,000 mph.
Some of the best bluegrass is played slow. Technical skill and breakneck speed are not trademarks of bluegrass...

I agree Ed. I have sold at least a half a dozen guitars at the "non prestigious shows" over the years, not to mention many good contacts.
