Thank you - I need to pick your brains about some finishing issues. I plan to bind the guitar, f/b and headstock also in coco with a thin light fiber line and I'm very afraid the coco will bleed into the fiber (I've had this problem when trying to stain necks where I've used a light fiber to offset the headplate). Anyway, the plan is for Zpoxy pore fill and to pop the wood and either nitro or KTM-9. I'm thinking of doing the pore fill before binding with the hope that will seal the coco? Thoughts?

I'll keep building until the money runs out... I've got a commissioned barnwood tele also on the bench that I'll hand carry to New Zealand in March (tough duty, eh). And I'll probably come up with something else for my personal quiver.

Freeman, I have heard of people having bleed problems with coco and zpoxy but I have done several and never had a problem. Apparently some boards are more prone to bleed than others. A test might be in order. Of course the zpoxy (and nitro) will cause some ambering but you can use something like Clear Coat instead of zpoxy to minimize the ambering if you don't want it.

Edit: Forgot to mention, I do wipe the coco with DNA then let it dry for an hour or so before the zpoxy. You have to be careful around the purfling line when you do. The DNA will move the dark oils around.

Getting close to finishing a restoration of what three years ago was a basket case Gibson U style harp guitar. LOTS of work on this one.

It actually sounds great.

Here is my workshop, loaded onto a truck on the way from Germany back to England. Most of it arrived. All the shippers lost was a box full of vintage Cuban mahogany. Oh how I laughed when they told me...they are having a little look to see if they can find it.

From personal experience I would not mention anything related to a farm while you're in customs in NZ. In addition to the usual contraband they are very concerned with soilborne diseases.
