Back in July of this year I was asked by the Recording Academy to build a guitar for the upcoming Grammy Awards. This guitar would be presented to Fleetwood Mac in honor of them winning the 2018 MusiCares Person of the Year. I spent the better part of the late summer coming up with an inlay design that would commemorate the artists career, without copying any existing album artwork, such as the Rumors Album. This turned out to be a great challenge, as the band has had such a checkered history of break-ups and changing lineups. In the end, I decided that depicting the band members themselves would be best. I chose to use images from their early years together, as this was their most productive time as a 5 piece group, and all 5 members are receiving the award. I have never attempted human faces in my inlay art before, and I couldn't be happier with how my first attempt came out. Cant wait to meet the band, and see their reactions to the guitar!

Specs
Model: Grand Session
Top: Sitka Spruce
Back & Sides: Quilted Maple
Neck: Quilted Maple

Amazing work. The inlay transitioning into the top is a brilliant addition.

Amazing! Did you make five of them? They are not famous for their gracious ability to share.

Wow, but who, exactly, is the lucky individual that gets it?

It's the one guitar for the whole band, so my bet it that it'll end up in a museum evenly. Not like Lindsey is gonna play a guitar on stage with his face on it haha!

Gorgeous instrument, well done! It's too bad the entire show this year will be rap and hip-hop artists.

Beautiful. You don't get a commission like that everyday! Assuming you did the elbow inlays after you fit in the neck?

That is some well executed bling! Love the maple on maple contrast done with color contrast of the same material. Stellar work for sure.

When I see Quilted maple like this and executed this well it pretty much re-assures me that I'll never spring for a set of "the tree". Just as gorgeous and 1/25th the price!

Hopefully they put it in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame.
