Quartersawn leopardwood bends really nicely. I usually thickness the sides to about .090", and never had any problems.

I guess I should have mentioned that it is for binding. I was kind of hoping that I would be able to bend it flatsawn, so the pattern of the wood grain would show on the sides of the guitar. I guess I will try it both ways and see what happens.

Now I am totally confused. I am having a really hard time telling which way the grain runs in this wood. It looks like it is both ways. So is the face that all the spots show on flatsawn or quartersawn usually?

The medullary rays show on the quartersawn surface of leopardwood.

Yup if you see it then it's QS. It bends very easy.

Have built three ukes using leopardwood and they all bent very easily. I was worried that the grain may fracture so gave them a spray of veneer softener the day before and had no problems whatsoever. Bent like butter on a hot pipe. Bob
