It's not 1", but I use golf club grip tape. Works great and you get a large roll for about $10. Any golf shop should have it or online from Hireko, Amazon, Golfsmith or etc.

If I need a smaller piece I cut it.

Super glue and cheap masking tape

I'll second Highland Woodworking. Their tape is much better than the carpet type tape you find at HD.
I don't think they have 1" but 3/4" might work.

I second the suggestion of the masking tape and super glue trick. If you haven't ever tried ito you will be amazed at the strength and simplicity.

Let's say you want to plane a fingerboard to thickness and you want to secure it to the benchtop. Put a strip of ordinary masking tape on the back of the work piece (in this case a fingerboard blank) for its full length, and put another strip on your bench top. Rub them down to stick them well to each surface. Then put a very small amount of super glue (thin CA) on one of the strips (don't let it stray beyond the edges of the tape), and spray some accelerator on the other strip. Then place the work piece onto the bench so the two strips are aligned. They will stick very strongly. You can go at it with a plane as hard as you like and it won't move anywhere. When you want it separated use a thin knife blade or palete kniife to peel one of the tape strips off.

The great virtue of double sided carpet tape with fiberglass reinforcement is zero force removal with naphtha. For holding rosettes to carrier boards, for milling crack reinforcing cleats similar to what TJ Thompson uses, or for other use where a palette knife or other forceful separation will not work well, double-sided tape with a permeable scrim (e.g., fiberglass) will do the job. While the CA and tape trick works well for many one-shot holding jobs, double stick tape is preferred in this shop where the potential for finish damage or marring posed by some misplaced CA or tape alignment issues (common in repair work) outweighs ease of use. Finally, for multi-use applications, such as on nut or saddle carrier boards, holders for bridge/small component shaping, or classical guitar internal magnet placement to secure arm rests (where less reversible adhesives are not acceptable), the durability of and ease of cleanup of an indoor/outdoor double-stick fiberglass reinforced tape is very useful.

We use Duck Brand 392907/442062 for moderate tack jobs and Shurtape #282640/#280396 where higher tack, higher shear strength, or higher separation resistance is desired (e.g., between raw wood surfaces). The Duck Brand products are available from Amazon as Prime items (about $9 for a 36mm x 12.8m roll or 48mm x 22.8m roll delivered) and the Shurtape product from Lowes.Com ($5 plus shipping and sale tax for a 36mm x 12.8m roll, SKU 256904; $9 plus shipping and sales tax for a 48mm x 22.8m roll, SKU 256882).

I hope this helps! Forget cutting the stuff with scissors - use single-edged razor blades to both cut and to lift the backing from the tape...much less mess than cleaning off the adhesive and stray fibers from our good shop shears.
