For their 2 millionth guitar celebration, Martin Guitar and custom watch maker Roland Murphy collaborated on 50 special edition guitars. With each of the guitars, you will also get a Roland Murphy watch in the case.... Pretty cool vid here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHIFsUbdupc |

It's got a certain gee whiz quality but in the end I have to agree with Brian, it's just butt ugly. Just my opinion of course and there are, no doubt, those out there who will like them. |

I think it's cool. It's a collaboration between two local companies who appreciate each other. It's probably best to not look at it as a guitar but rather an art object. It's got a steam punk-ish motif so it works for me. |

Quote: Sorry, but I think that is the ugliest guitar ever built..... Not even close, Brian - but I take your meaning. I wouldn't want one - gimme a plain jane Martin any old day. These will probably never even be played - simply ogled. |

I guess we should be thankful that there isn't a local microwave oven factory that Martin could pair with. Alex |

I really do appreciate the craft that goes into creating these commemorative guitars. The inlay work is absolutely stunning. But I wish they were designed by someone with just a little bit of,...what's the word? Oh yeah, taste. The millionth guitar looked like an oyster bed threw up, and the more recent ones aren't any better. They need an art director on staff. Steve |

"50 sets of BRW were sacrificed... What a shame!" It almost looked like they used scrap and filled in around the inlay and then poured a thick epoxy coating over the whole thing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNDiuwN ... NhkMU#t=47 |

NhkMU#t=47 Kind of a taste horror show and I don't really want one anyway cause my power winder won't fit those knobs, but sucking the bubbles out of epoxy with vacuum? Frick'n cool! Gotta go get me a plastic salad bowl! |

I love this shot from the clip Clay posted. "Look, guys, lets just sub it out to Grit. He'll do it right." "No, no, it needs to stay in house. Now, lets make the gears on the back <gestures with his hands> this big!" |

It has a guy (Grit) on a ladder, with a bucket of paint, "fixing" the style 45 Martin headstock. He's replaced the M, R, and T with L, S, and K. Just about wet myself laughing, but apparently Chris Martin wasn't all that amused. Steve |

I thought the millionth was a lovely display of craft. It was gaudy, which I think was a great call, but the inlay work was exceptional. This one just seems...off. They didn't do anything technical with the inlay (and there are enough guys around now who could have done those watch gears at near scale and really made something special), and the design isn't super inspiring either. It doesn't feel particularly special, where the millionth guitar ones were the real deal. |
