Post subject: | custom sized truss rod |
hello, It seems I remember someone offering custom sized truss rods comparable to the newer CFMartin type t way adjustable rods, but I don't remember who it was. I am wanting a 2 way rod suitable for an approx 21.5 inch scale guitar similar to Martin's size 5. I appreciate any help, thanks, jack |

Mark Blanchard will make his patented two-way design any length you want. Not cheap at $40 a pop, but they are a thing of beauty and in a class all their own. And ideal when you need a custom length. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

I just had one made for a size 5 from Allied. I believe they are similar to the Blanchard rod although he has a very good reputation. |

I did a size 5 tenor with a 22" scale a couple years ago... The normal Stew Mac 2 way short truss rod fit just fine.... Their rods are pretty short compared to the Martin style. I would check their measurements before you order a custom rod. There may be a standard model that fits fine. |

There are some short ones that will work if you want. I wanted a specific type of rod - I'm picky ![]() |

Huh...well custom is relative...I'm sure for guitar necks a custom one can be made...but, IIRC, I once inquired to the possibility of an 8' long one being made for controlling projected warping in hidden doors and didn't get any results... either way, while the added cost of 'custom' might be burdensome in comparison to stock, you get what you pay for neh? |

I made a 19" scale guitar and cut down a regular sized truss rod. I welded it at the length I wanted and then cut the rest off. If you could find someone with a welder it is a two minute procedure. ![]() |

It might be more convenient to join two 4' lengths with a connector nut rather rather than cutting 8' out of a 10 feet length. I have done this a couple of times ... I got the idea from Frank Ford's site. |

I used to use the Allied rod that utilizes dual pitch threads in the same way as the Blanchard rod. But Allied have now gone to a different rod design and fabricator, and I wasn't happy with the change. I decided to go directly to Mark. His workmanship is extraordinary, and there is no extra charge for custom lengths. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |
