My wife has finally given me the go ahead to purchase a dedicated resaw bandsaw. I have a lot of hardwoods to resaw walnut, Katalox, osage orange etc that have been sitting here in the garage. I/ve read the reviews on both BS , I saw the grizz in the showroom in springfield Mo a couple of years ago . But was reluctant to buy because of the chinese motor. I/ve read the reviews of the laguna and some are positive and others quite negative , I also plan to use a wood master ct blade and a resaw king from laguna . What are your opinions and experiences . Please share what you have learned about these BS for resawing thanks |

I think for a 14-inch saw, your only choices are any resaw King or a 1/2" Trimaster because they come with a thin enough band. |

Hi Ernie, My Laguna 14 SUV and the Leeson motor are also made in China. It's pretty tough to find tools that aren't unless you are willing to add a couple grand to the pot. I personally really like my SUV. I've got the Resaw King on mine and so far it's been flawless. I've cut maybe 60 sets and just processed some ebony a couple of days ago. I do plan to give a Trimaster a go when my RK gets dull. Micheal |

michael your right abt the motors. FWIW I have a 1/2 in lenox tri master on my minimax s-45 and it was 156$ plus shipping a few yrs ago . I was very disappointed in the blade and would never buy another one. It seems that different blades seem to work better or less on some BS than others. I would research to find a better blade than the resaw king. For the grizz woodmaster ct 1 in carbide seems to work well. Ps have been to PT several times when we lived in van bc great small town !! |

Hi Ernie, I have an SUV and have mixed feelings about it. I think the saw itself is quite good, but I'm not 100% sold on the RK blade. I would like to try different blades, but, the 14" wheels limit options considerably. If you're buying a saw strictly for resawing, you might want to consider something with larger wheels as it opens up your blade selections. That being said...the last batch of resawing we did with the SUV went pretty well. I'm not sure what more a person would need, but, I've never had the opportunity to try anything other than the SUV and an old makita 16" saw. The SUV is much better... |

Thanks ed , thats what I noticed abt the laguna suv 14 and the bigger blades. I might check out the grizz as well. The resaw is smaller 12 in but it can take a heavier woodmaster ct blade which the 14in wheels on the laguna can not. michael. PT is a great town in many ways!! |

If you have the space, buy old American bandsaws like Northfields, Tannewitz, or Oliver. You can refurbish them and have a piece of machinery that will not sell for a loss. Also, the quality is worlds apart from what is being made today. IF you don't feel like you can handle a rebuild then obviously, it isn't the right thing for you. But if you have the skills then that is what I'd recommend. In terms of best bang for the buck with new equipment, Grizzly always tends to lead that category. |

Toonces I have neither the time , inclination or skills to retrofit a large used american BS. But I do agree they are available, and great BS. I might have to rethink this and spend more $$ to get a great BS .I turn 69 on tue nov 1 and I have spent more time fixing machinery than I deserve.My goal is making right now , so back to doing my homework and see what I can come up with Thanks everyone |

Ernie, a while back I bought the 636 17" ultimate from Grizzly. It was a little more than I wanted to spend at the time, but have not regretted it a bit. Last year I needed to resaw some 17+" maple. As the resaw capacity is 16+", the only way to do it was to remove the upper guide. Nervously I pushed through a highly curled piece of maple 3' long with no issues. Did not even slow the motor. I was impressed. B |

I have a Laguna LT16HD, and it can handle anything you throw at it. It has a great motor, and the guide blocks are second to none. Mine is an Italian saw with a Baldor motor. I think the new ones may come with a Leeson, but I am not sure. Yes, it is more expensive, but worth the extra cost IMHO. |

I've got the Grizzly and it's done everything that I've asked it to do. It did bog down a bit with 8" thick ebony but that's to be expected. 1.3 TPI Woodmaster CT makes short work of most re-sawing jobs. |

The Laguna LT16 HD are still Italian made and come with your choice of a 5 horse US made Leeson or a 4.5 horse US made Baldor motor. Bob |

We have the GO-514X2B in the shop, and it handles resaw and joinery tasks without issue. We have a mix of Leeson, Baldor, and Chinese sourced motors - other than a start capacitor on a Leeson motor, no issues. The recommendation i get from the other folks in the shop here is that bigger is better...less fatique of thicker blade bodies, better/more durable guides, more weight to soak up what vibration does make it through the link belt, and larger blades. We resaw with Woodmaster CT's, and have no issue with 10" cocobolo, ebony, and with abrasives like curly anigre, teak, and ipe. |

For those of you using the 514 x2b and woodmaster ct blades . How wide of a blade do you use 1 or 1.25in w thanks for all the suggestions,. from everyone out there . With the Laguna BS are you using the RK blade or the woodmaster ??? |

The Woodmaster CT blades listed by our supplier are the 1" 1.3tpi and the 2 tpi, and the 2" width blades. We use the 1" 1.3 tpi blade for all resaw work. Spectrum Supply sells a 143" blade for about $115 plus shipping, and they are very durable. |

Hi bob don/t want to rain on your parade, but I don/t think the cdn $$ is going anywhere .PS I am also cdn but live in the usa. I remember back in the late 80/s ordering from stew- mac . when we lived in van. First I had to pay the exchange rate , then higher postage to canada, then I had to drive to the airport to get it cleared from customs and pay a duty. Ouch! |

Yeah, being in Canada can ache when buying stuff. Have you tried Weber Supply? I believe they also sell Lennox blades. I haven't tried myself but I did inquire from them at some point. |
