Post subject: | Dovetail router bit |
I've been building using mortise and tenon neck joints for the last 6 guitars, but tried to dovetail the last one. I got everything to fit pretty good but when I got the plane of the neck even with the top I could make it "rock" by pushing real hard. I started playing with shims and didn't take long to find two inserts and two bolts and tighten the thing up. I used a 7° bit with two guide bushings, one bushing for the male cut and one for the female in a 1/4" shank router. I don't know if this was a problem or not but was thinking maybe the 7° bit was not enough angle. I know Robbie O'Brien uses a 7° in the LMI video and I pretty much tried to copy that other than he uses a 1/2" shank router. Maybe that's what I need to get and not have to change guide bushings. Any thoughts? |

What I ment to say was I used one straight cut bit in one bushing to "hog out" the male and female parts and another dovetail bit with a different smaller guide bushing to do the final "dovetailing" of the mortise walls and surface of the tenon. |
