In a previous post I came clean and showed a mess up on a new telecaster build. I was not careful enough and burned the end of the horn pretty bad when buffing out the finish. I went ahead and put it together, played it and took pictures. I could'nt stand to leave it that way, so, I took it apart and fixed it. Here's what I did... - cut off small pieces of binding and put them in a glass jar with some acetone. The bits disolved and took that slurry and filled in the spot of binding that was burned (rubbed) away. I used a popcycle stick and when it was dry and set up, I sanded it smooth. - then, I used some black transtint and mixed it into some of the finish (EM6000). There had been some bare would exposed after I burned it and I immediately went over it at that time with a sharpie. That was only a temporary fix. I used that mixture to paint the bare area with a small artist's paint brush. - then, I used the small artist's paint brush and "painted" several coats of EM6000 to build up the void. Once it cured I wet sanded and buffed it back out. I'm pleased with the repair. You'd never know that I buggered it up... |

Nice to get something off the scratch and dent shelf... Good to know that something like that can be fixed on that scale. |
