Post subject:  Calling for Gurian experiences

Dear all,

I am not so sure this is the best place to post, so please do let me know if it is inappropriate.

I have been working on a Gurian Guitars database for the past few years, having inherited a wealth of info from enthusiasts like Bob Thomas. Recently I have managed to upgrade the page and system; in fact I am looking to expand our knowledge of Michael's guitars.

I would love to hear your experiences with Gurians, if you were involved in Michael's workshop or having worked on one- ebony pins and all!

Warmest regards,
Terence

incidentally, the database is here: http://www.guitarbench.com/guitar-database/gurian-guitars-identification-registry-2/

I'd suggest contacting Michael Gurian directly, as well as Michael Millard at Froggy Bottom, who worked for him. You might also give Gus Wanner a call at Guitar Tex in San Antonio, as he has good knowledge about them.

1977;
I went to Charles Fox class in Vt.
I had a 76 S2M.

During the class some of us trucked on down to his shop.
It was a sat or sun.
As we're examining a covered stack of Spruce this old
Power Wagon pulls up & the driver yells "what the hell you doing"
It was Michael.
We told him we came down from Charles class to visit your
shop & buy wood.

He took us in & gave us a incredible tour of his guitar works.
A shipment of Cedar tops going to Ramirez.
At least 500 tops!!!!

We all bought some wood.
At that time he had $40.00 Braz. sets!!!!
Indian for under $20.
Neck woods -H.S. veneers, tops! etc....
All at a great price

I have pics of his building after the fire.

I'm not sure is sending to ya would be O.K. with Michael.
I also have a price cat from the mid 70's

Mike

I have a note that Michael retired, and someone took it over.
I used to get my outer Larson purfling from Gurian.

Not that it's relevant to this thread but I just finished last month a guitar built from mahogany that came from the Gurian shop before the fire. I still have a couple sets of mahogany and rosewood left which I purchased from the daughter of a guy who took building classes there back in the 1970's. For some reason I have seen Gurian's name pop up online a few times recently in and around other places on the net.
