Doh!

I know there is no cussin on this forum but... %$#*@&*!!!!! [headinwall] [headinwall] [headinwall]

This is probably my 10th guitar doing a french polish on and a while back I saw a tutorial here on the forum on FP and I forget who it was but he was wearing a glove. I never wore a glove doing FP thinking to myself it's just bug poop and alcohol, nontoxic, and in fact edible. So I asked him why the glove? The answer of course is so you don't scratch the top. Well I never wore a glove and never scratched the top till this one. This is the first time I ever wore a glove and the first time I ever scratched the top WTF? idunno

Now that you have experienced the "safety" of wearing gloves, I suggest you go the next step of wearing glove liners. I have been using them now for a couple of years. You can get them from places like Northern Safety Supply. They are really inexpensive, cotton, glove liners, and they perform two functions. One, they are cotton, so they are very absorbent. My hands perspire a lot when I wear latex! Gloves, that is. And, two, they cushion your nails. Buy the thin ones. I have tried both, and the thick ones are too thick. Here is a link to the ones I like. https://www.northernsafety.com/Product/ ... nit-Gloves

I did that same thing a couple of weeks back, twice, I,m ashamed to admit. Then I went and cut my nails, it's all better now.

Good tip Waddy, the glove inside the glove. My hands do get sweaty in there too.

I probably should cut my nails too but I'm sure like most of us luthiers we are players too and I tend to get finicky tending to my nails though they are terrible and break all the time anyway.

So anyway, I steamed out the scratch and am now building up the finish to where I left off. The steam puffed it right out.
