Hi all,

Here is a jig I came up with for cutting SS Fret tangs on bound boards. It uses a SM Dremel adjustable base and a 1-1/4" Dremel cutoff wheel so you get easy fine adjustment and a quick cut. The only downside is the fret gets a bit warm during the cut so I keep a little cup of water on hand to cool it down afterward. It never gets so hot that it discolors the metal but certainly too warm to touch. Works like a champ!

Cheers, M

Clever. I like it. Could be adapted to work other than fret trimming, too.

Switching to a small jewelers saw blade would cool things down. Just a thought.

Neat! I likes that.

How come all my jigs look like they were assembled by drunken elves?

Because I cheat and use my CNC to make my jigs...

Only a matter of time before every drunken elf has CNC.

Great set up. That's exactly what I will need on my current build. Since I don't have a CNC set up, I can use the rosette cutter jig on my Stewmac plunge base to cut the wheel base most of the way. What do you think about a small fence on one side to control fret as you you push it into the wheel? Thanks.

If only you can get them to load the parts right side up.

Brad,

If I'm understanding you, I think the 1/32" wide slot guide is a better way to go than a fence because the fret body is held co-planer with the cutoff wheel. Does that make sense?

Best, M

Is there a slot on your set up? I can't see it in the photo. You're right, a slot would be much better. Thanks.

Or on a slightly more relevant note: Have your elves been drinking? :)
