Hi Folks.

After gluing in a rosette a couple of weeks back its seems that some areas a round the inlays have yellowed a bit, i presume from the superglue i used.

I used cheap glue, i guess this is the main problem, but does anyone know any fixes for this other than the obvious of using better quality glue?

Is it the rosette or the soundboard that is discolored? Did you seal the rosette channel before gluing it in?

Gary,

Spruce must be sealed with shellac prior to the application of CA adhesives. I've also seen the same yellow staining on soft maple and similar problems with cedar so I seal all light colored woods before applying super glue.

I think they've got it. Sounds like superglue wicked into the end grain of the unsealed rosette channel. Get yourself a bag of dewaxed shellac flake and make shellac as required...

I used some cheap Chinese super glue from Walmart that yellowed after a few weeks. [headinwall] It didn't work out to be a good way to cut costs. The glue penetrated deep into the fibers of the wood and could not be sanded out. I wound up doing a sunburst finish to hide the stains.
You might be able tostain the top a matching yellow and do a tobacco sunburst.

I do not use CA on spruce
Duco for all my rosettes. The first few guitars I used CA all yellowed .

I can actually detect discoloration on a CA seam in BRW.

Like the Taylor factory we use clear nitro lacquer to seal the rosette and binding channels if CA is going to be used for assembly.
