Dumb question - but did we ever decide on what is a "parlor"
There are about 30 different definitions that run from "anything but a dread" to "Martin published in their 1893 catalog that size 1 was the smallest professional plantilla... So 'parlor' is size 2 and smaller" and everything in between.

Thanks

I don't think so. I guess you can pick any of those 30 definitions you want.

I consider size 0 to be a parlor, so my definition is 13 1/2" max lower bout width. But 13" might be better. My design is 13 1/2" full width, but 13" effective soundboard width due to the armrest bevel... so whether it fits that definition depends on whether you look at it as a 13" guitar with an expanded body to make room for the bevel, or a 13 1/2" guitar with a bevel cutting into it.

Steve and Jay, I just thought I would mention that the price limit is still under discussion so if that is the only factor, head over to the rules discussion page and make your case. I asked for input and am staying out of the discussion for not to see what happens. We are certainly not married to $150.

John, I don't think that is a dumb question at all. I suppose we all have our own definition of parlor. For me, I think of it as anything smaller than an O. Others will say bigger, others smaller. Some people consider OOO/OM parlor guitars, who am I to say they are wrong? That said, so many people are making that size now, I envision the spirit of the challenge to be smaller that. I say this mostly because I want to see more of the 13" or smaller lower bout guitars that pop up here time to time.

Edit: I walked away from my computer mid response and did not see Dennis' comment until I hit submit. . .

BTW, FWIW mine is going to be either a (roughly) size 1 or 2. I initially planned a size 2 but now I am considering a 1, mostly because I discovered my top and back materials will get me there. I'm going to make an expandable mold that will get me both widths (the length will have to be a compromise between the two). Going forward, I will call them both my "parlor sizes" and my Oish guitars will not.

Shameless bump.

We are up to 11 entrants! Remember, there is no deadline for entry. There is still plenty of time to throw your hats in.

I'm basing mine on the PL30 plan from LMI, similar to the Martin size 5.

Informative bump. The Challenge is still open and accruing participants. Anyone who wishes to join can still throw the proverbial hat in at anytime. There is a deadline for completion but not for entry.

I came across my box of stuff for the 2014 challenge the other day.
Maybe I'll finish it in time for the 2017 challenge.
