Why is the LMI and Allied ones twice the cost of any other?
Thanks for the Martin heads up. The 12th fret or the 5 size one might just be the ticket. At $13 compared to over $30 for Allied, that seems to make the most sense.

I recently picked up the "low profile truss rod" from StewMac. But unlike the hot rod truss rod it only comes in 14-1/4" size. I like the lower profile. My necks tend to be on the thin side. However the length is giving me grief. I prefer using a 12-1/4" length rod. Is there a source for a low profile rod in the 12-1/4" size? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Would the TRSDS from LMI work? I used this in a 00 recently. It looks like it takes the same channel size as the SM low profile and is 12" http://www.lmii.com/products/mostly-not ... welded-nut Hope that helps! Brad |

We use Martin 2-way rods, which fit a .250" x .370" slot, and come in three lengths (overall): 14" for 14 fret acoustics, 13-1/8" for 12 fret acoustics, and about 12-1/4" for Size 5 and octave mandolin necks in the 21.5" - 22" scale length. While not called 'low profile' truss rods, they fit the same roughly 1/4" x 3/8" slot that the Stewmac and LMI rods fit. I believe Mr. Hall at Blues Creek also sells an identical rod which comes in two different lengths, similar to the Martin rods. |

I ordered a couple of Martin two way rods based on advice here which was basically the same info Woodie posted above. I haven't used one yet but they seem perfect for my application. I just wanted to add that the 12 fret rod was not on Martin's website but was available. I called them and got great service, she even went and measured one for me. |

I really like the folks over at Allied -- but I agree the price point for that TS is not competitive -- what's the value add? Martin Guitar Maker's Connection can fix you up with a short rod -- these are my two-way rods of choice, the design and quality is exceptional. |

Clinch -- thanks for the update, Martin rods single and double action have worked fine for me for about twenty years + now -- no failures. So the more expensive rods no matter who makes or sells them have "at least for me" -- no value add. |

As the boss mentioned when I asked about alternative truss rods this weekend, this shop guarantees new guitars for an indefinite period, so it becomes a case of whether we can justify using rods that do not have hundreds of thousands (really, close to 1 million) of examples in the field and no documented history of failures. |

The Martin Truss Rods also use a larger allen wrench for adjustment and in my experience, require significantly less torque to adjust. I agree with the previous posts that the quality is exceptional. The Martin rods are shrink-wrapped for the entire length that fits into the neck slot with no need worry about their being seized from glue.
