Is there a record for gluing your forefinger to your thumb with CA? This guy I know does it a lot, and he was wondering. |

I try to do it at least once every time I pick up the bottle. I glue myself to a lot of rosettes as well. |

Years ago on the MIMF, a member told a story about (IIRC) spilling his bottle of CA and gluing his bare foot the the floor of his shop. Funny story but it doesn't really apply to the questions as I'm sure he only did that once. |

Maybe you are thinking of me gluing my foot to my flip flop, which was glued to the floor. I had to slice the sole of my flip flop between my foot and the floor in order to move enough to reach my acetone. Now I always keep acetone right there when I use CA. |

Ha! I could not remember who it was. Thanks for fessing up. All I could remember was the notion of someone being just out of reach of the solvent. I even went over to MIMF to see if I could find the story in the archives but had no luck. |

OK, found this... OK...how is this? I was gluing a veneer to the head of a guitar; the super glue (CA) had sealed the hole in the tip. I am in my chair with the guitar half on the bench half in my lap. When I cleared the tip, the tube blew, due to too much pressure. Now I have Superglue all over the head of my guitar ![]() ![]() Ohhh... No that is not the best part, I was working in my boxer shorts. The shorts were also glued to my, leg, and stomach and through the boxers a lot of hair was removed (epilated)...I missed the crucial parts by 1". For two days now every time my wife looks at me she starts laughing ![]() _________________ Joe In this http://luthiersforum.com/forum/viewtopi ... 80#p456080 |

Two things to add. One of our famous clients glued himself to his one of a kind Martin signature model. This was serial number 001.... of the series too. He was attempting to use CA to reattach a battery bag (we didn't do the original install...). He managed to get his hand off the upper bout of the instrument leaving what Tom Lehrer might have described as occasional pieces of skin... Our mission that we accepted was to get his skin off the instrument without damaging the instrument. Dave did this nicely and our client was forever grateful although a bit embarrassed. There is a famous story about Madonna and Sean Penn when she got mad at him while he was sleeping... and dripped CA on him gluing his testical to his leg. He had to go to the ER to get his manhood freed up. Be careful CA can be dangerous in all manner of creative new ways... ![]() |

Lets not forget other super glue dangers Spilled a nearly full 2 ounce bottle of ca while in the middle of binding, at first thought let it harden chip it off latter, then, better wipe it up, grabbed a wad of paper towels, and was thoughtful enough to not glue it to my hand. Continued with my work, then, arghhhh, lots of smoke, lots and lots of smoke, ca curing is exothermic. thinking need to get this off my bench grabbed the paper towels up, run out of the shop with, go to throw them down in the grass, ummmmm they are glued to my hand and lots and lots and lots of smoke. The heat of the reaction was becoming all the more obvious and my anxiety level rose with every passing nano second. Well fortunately had an outdoor spigot very near, a lesson learned. |

I can't help but feel like a "whap" is coming your way and I don't want to get hit by the recoil. ![]() Even though I haven't seen a Suran Whap in a while (and never over here), I'm still gun-shy. . . |
