Post subject:  Case for a 00

Hello,

I am super close on finishing a 00 that I built based off of Georgia Luthier Supply's 0028-VS plan. The dims are:

UB - 10.5"
LB - 14.5"
Length - 40"
Depth 4.5

I checked with TK and they didn't feel they had a stock case to fit it and referred me to Cedar Creek where cases are great and prices start in the low 500's. :)

Anyone know of another supplier that might have a stock case that will keep me from sleeping on the couch? I thought since it was the 0028-VS that I could get the case that Martin recommended but I'm having a hard time even finding that.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks!
Brad

Sam Ash sells a case from Martin that fits a 14 fret OO. I just bought one for my 12 fret OO project and it fits too but its really for a 14 fret. Sam Ash # M12C350XX. It cshould work for you. $150.00. Before I ordered it we compared my project guitar to a Martin 0015 and the bodies matched well.

Look at the Gaurdian website, they have one I believe. As well, the Godin TRIC folk size is one we use for 00's...

You can try this place, in Toronto. They are very nice people to deal with. https://www.georgeheinl.com U.S. Dollars will give you about a 25% discount. Right now, their web site is being retooled, but you can email or call. The cases that they sell are Quebec made TKL's, without the branding. I bought a Mini Jumbo tweed case that is well put together.

It might fit a little loose in the upper bout, but this case would probably work: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessories/musicians-gear-deluxe-classical-guitar-case?rNtt=classical%20case&index=14
These are surprisingly decent cases for the money.

Is the 4.5" body depth, or body depth + bridge?

Hi Clay, that is the body depth. I guess it is probably closer to 5 with the bridge.

Thanks!

Thanks, Ben. I was sure there would be a Martin case that I could take the logo off of. I just couldn't find it. I was searching too specific I think. Not just for a Martin 00 case, I was looking for a 0028-VS case. Thanks for the link!

The Godin case refed above does not fit well. Ive owned the guitar it was designed for and I own a 00 guitar now so I know. Just trying to be helpful.

My 00 fits very nicely (slightly loose) in one of TKL's standard cases. Don't know the model, it doesn't say on the case but it might be a classical case

Image

Mine is
UB - 10-1/4
LB - 14
Length - 19-1/2
LOA - 39
Depth at tail - 4 ( body only)

Mine is a 12 fret short scale and has lots of room at the headstock, but 14 fret and/or long scale might be tight.

Johnson and Boak's Martin technical reference book lists the 00 14 fret at 4-1/8" thick. Will this make a difference?

I believe that the TKL case is listed as OO/Classical.

I tend to build my guitars with a slightly deeper body (bad habit) and it can make finding cases for otherwise standard shapes problematic. That is why I asked about the depth.

Thanks, Clay. I have the Martin case arriving tomorrow. I'll close the loop here on how it turns out.

Thanks!

I think Clay wins this round. :) I got the Martin case in. It's close, but I think no cigar.

Here are some pics. It closes, but I have to give some pressure to get it closed. I'm assuming we don't want that kind of pressure on the top?

I just realized the error of my ways. :)

Tim, you had recommended the 12C530: https://www.riffcityguitaroutlet.com/pr ... shell-case

I ordered the 12C310 from Guitar Center because it was a bit cheaper and free shipping: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Martin/310C ... Guitars.gc

I thought it was the same case, but the one from GC is labeled as "Thin body". Bummer. But the good news is I can return to the store.

Get one with an arched top and back, Brad, and there should be enough room.

Yes. And actually it is the 12C350 not 12C530 (I think that was probably a typo on your part. This is the case I recommend to my customers when I build them a 00. Sometimes goes on sale in various places for $125.

Just to close out on this..... I eventually did order the case that Tim recommended: https://www.riffcityguitaroutlet.com/pr ... shell-case Indeed, it does fit like a glove. Arrived today and if I can get through re-fretting the instrument without completely mangling it then it will go out in a case that it actually fits in this time!

Thanks, Tim!

Elderly has a nice selection at various price points, I've bought cases for a Martin 14 fret size O, and a Gibson 13 fret Nick Lucas.
