I am getting ready to do my first beveled arm rest and I have a couple of questions regarding the veneer portion.

How do you apply the veneer? Glue on both surfaces, dry, then iron on? Wet glue up? If so how do you clamp?

What glue do you use?

Thanks for your replies!!!

Fish glue on guitar side (have also used TB1), wood veneer at .020" thickness shouldn't need bending or ironing, tape from middle to one point at about 1.5" intervals then from middle to other point, once happy with layout, tape the heck out of it. In fact, I go back with the rubber bands I use to do binding and then cover the whole area with those too.

Thanks Chris,

I have yet to use fish glue but I assume you had similar results with the same method with titebond 1?

Similar results, but fish allows you to touch it up if it didn't turn out perfect on the first try.

I use the iron on method. Works great. Regular tite bond. Let both surfaces dry to clear tack (~30 min) Then iron on.

TB1 on the guitar and a little on the veneer at the 2 tips. Then tape the crap out of it.

Interesting. I've never done the iron on veneer thing but im thinking it might be worth a try. When I read on the Veneer Supplies website they say the glue they offer is better for the job. I think it is called heatlock.

Anyone have experience with it?

All I can add is the TB1 iron on is a one shot deal. Screw it up, sand it off.

Mike,
that's what heat lock says about theirs also. They must be very close to the same. Probably either one will do the job.
