Just curious. Had that top been cooked? I think I'm going to cook anything that leaves our mostly perfect RH here on the Coast. I just started with the one on working on right now. |

I had a shop do this to me once...I think they put it in a window. They claimed no clue how it couldve gotten dry... Did they do something like put it on a stand next to a wood stove? |

Oh ya - Fort Mac will do that in a heartbeat - I had a similar instance where my nephew brought a guitar I built to Bonnyville (same general area) Minus 30 Celsius = 0%rh when the humidifier is broken... Sorry to see that Ed... |

Cripes! Is there blood all over the thing from the bloody noses and cracked skin from humidity that low? I think maybe you need to sell that fellow a Rainsong or an old aluminum neck Ovation.... I don't think anything wood will survive 0% relative humidity for long.... Thanks |

I have often wondered why many of the major builders keep their shop around 50%RH. This includes Gibson, Taylor (to my knowledge) and PRS. Anyone know why? Andy |

The second, fourth and fifth pictures are clear to me what I'm looking at. The closeup of the binding and the bridge (first and third pics), what am I looking at here? I'm a noob and this seems like a good time for a lesson, just want to know what happened.  Sorry that this happened (for both you and them) what a bummer. |

First and third pic show how the top and back have sunk in. They are supposed to be slightly convex like the outside of a balloon. I feel a bit bad for the lady, but I've been seeing this sort of stuff for 20 years now so I'm a bit blasé about it. At least it didn't shrink enough for the brace ends to pop the bindings off...plus, she knew better, and knows she did. C'est la vie, it'll come back to life... |

This will give your wood a moisture content of about 8 or 9%. Which is good. Any more or less can cause issues from swelling to cracking. This usually occurs when there is a quite large change suddenly up or down. I always recommend that new owners keep the guitar they just received in the original shipping box unopened for at least a day. Yeah it sometimes hard to resist for some. The extreme temperature changes from the shipping area on a hot or cold truck to another area with a different climate will real havoc on an instrument if it's not allowed to acclimate to the surrounding temperature. I also recommend keeping an instrument in it's case when not played with some type of in case humidification. Guitar stands are okay for when you are taking a break but the case is the best place for all around general storage.The first couple years is really important in that regard. I think 40% is the perfect shop RH as more problems happen down than up. If a guitar made at that RH goes down to 30 it is still ok but if it was made at 50 and goes down to 30 there may be trouble as seen above. |

Of course not. I'm not touching it. I send stuff like that to a friend of mine, who will most definitely charge for it. I'll have RJ fix the fingerboard and refret it and charge whatever he feels appropriate for his time. I will give it a courtesy set up when it's ready. |
