I'm thinking about Hermann Hauser '37 design. I have to buy guitar plans

I believe the Brune plan from LMII is sort of the standard these days --- at least that the packet we used to develop our Hauser mold etc.

+1 on the GAL plans
Their plans are hard to beat and there is a corresponding article somewhere in their quarterly magazine which documents the copied guitar even further.

Also, on the Courtnall Site - http://www.masterguitarplans.com/

Quote:
"Plans for Guitar Making (available as PDF files emailed to you for printing - all good Print & Copy shops will print full size from these PDF files which you can take to them on a memory stick or email to them.)"

Can't vouch for them myself.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

What do you mean with "only"? 43 is 6 more than 37.

Guys - for your information
I bought plans from Georgia Luthier Supply's (http://ultimate-guitar-online.ultimate- ... cts_id=374)
Thety are quite detailed but I found few errors on the plan.
I tried to contact with the owner of the shop - but no any answer from last weeks.

If you plan to buy some plans from ythis shop - please check that all measurement are correct and you have all pictures what you need because some part can be faulty and needs to be corrected.

If this plan was (is) accurate it would (does) infringe the copyright of the only original Hauser 37 plan (by Richard E. Bruné).

I have no idea. Ask Author and let me know. I bought It from official webpage.
If he broke the rules ask him/her
I bought the plans because it was only the one electronic version what i found.

I said only that some measurement are not fully the same like on another copy.
And have some differences between metric and imperial values.

And i see hauser plans done by Wells not Brune and they are on congress library:) than Brune is not only one who has right for it and i don't know what is the usa rules but official project has more than50 years and i dont know how long copyright are active but sometimes not more than 50 years.

"If this plan was (is) accurate it would (does) infringe the copyright of the only original Hauser 37 plan (by Richard E. Bruné)."

Why would that be? If it is an original drawing made from the same object you would expect it to have similar dimensions.

If the plans were a re-publication of existing drawings, it would be a copyright issue. Creating your own drawings, even if of the same subject, would not. Copyright protects the expression of an idea, not the idea itself.

Not exactly - if somebody create some new plans the dimension should be the same.
Ofcourse can not be copied 1-1 with everything.
If somebody to do it from the begining with owne description own pictures not direct copies from any other that the rights are not broken.
And I agree with rlrhett.
The idea can be protectes as a patent and only as I remember limited time in many situation it is only 50 years.

and the plan which should be protected as a copyright should be the plan done by Herman Hauser - rest is a just expresion of idea and the this expression is protected nothing else - ofcourse on each plan should be information who is the creator of the idea.

According to GAL, the Brune plans were done on his visit to the museum where the guitar was held. He was able to measure and photograph the guitar to document the plans he has drawn. That's his own work.

Georgia Luthier Supply, I know nothing about, but may have done the same thing and come up with a different interpretation from their documentation. I have no idea where their info comes from. I'm assuming that you were happy with what they had before you bought the plans.

My feeling is that anything done in 1937, actually finished in '38 according to Brune, wasn't an original digital copy and would need to be interpreted by someone along the way with some loss of accuracy involved. If your primary criteria is that the plans be digital there will be some level of interpretation. To ask that everyone have the same exact interpretation is asking quite a bit. For me I would buy the plans from the person I trusted and pay him for the time he took to do the documentation.

Tim

I just check some information with the pan from Raymond Wells which are in Congress Library - I have very poor JPG from the internet
And some measurments are different
Anothe question - is anybody from you who knows where I can find any photos of the original Hauser'37 guitar - build from Brune plans - original version not any modification?

There is a write up in one of the GAL issues, along with Brunes' drawings, photos and documentation.
You could purchase them from GAL or maybe find someone who wants to resell theirs.

Well your kind of up a creek if you have to have an electronic version. why not draw you own from a plan, that's what I've done.
I'm going to jump on the band wagon that R. Brune's are what you want as he actually held, measured and photographed the guitar giving him first hand information instead of being lifted from other plans. As an aside I believe Jeff Elliott did the same thing with the 43.

Richard also has a boxed set out that includes a CD of Segovia playing the guitar, a booklet with technical notes as well as historical information, a color poster with a full size image of the body and head stock, front and back. The booklet also has detailed photos of the interior of the instrument.
If you coupled this with the gal articles you would have all the information you needed to make an accurate copy. Of course there's more to it than that.
