I've had to resort to making 2pc laminated necks. There an awful lot of waste wood, which looks large enough for laminated neck blocks. I can't see an issue with it, especially as I use a bolt on butt joint.

Any thoughts?Image

I have used neck blocks made from more than one piece. I just keep the seam perpendicular to the body length so it's always under compression (also compressed by my bolts). Don't know if it's the 'right way' but I've done it and haven't had a problem yet.

Should not be an issue with a bolt-on. For dovetails I would not use laminated blocks because come reset time, and it will.... the steam may delaminate the neck block.

I use the same type joint and mine are all 3 or even 4 piece. Blocks, linings and the like are good areas to use pieces of wood that fall on the shop floor ;)

+1 on the dovetail though.

I made laminated neck blocks... I laminated it with epoxy thinking that when reset time comes, epoxy won't come apart at all.

Ed: I've used stacked neck blocks and never had a bit of problem and I think laminated should be OK. As long as one keeps the grain parallel to sides I don't see a problem.

A bit of a note for Tai Fu.................While some epoxies may be impervious to heat, the kinds I have used can be parted with heat.

You may not care about this, but I don't think a two piece (or even a 5 piece neck) should be called "laminated". Laminations are thin layers like you see in plywood.

I use laminated heel and neck blocks made from baltic birch plywood. I think there are definite advantages to this approach regarding stability, lightness, and crack resistance.
